26 March – Hari Raya Nyepi Tahun Baru 1931 (Bali’s Official day of Silence – Hindu New Years Day)  Nyepi is a Balinese word for silence, is the name given to the first day of Balinese lunar calendar when it is the religious obligation of every Balinese Hindu to dedicate an entire day to quiet introspection and spiritual cleansing. During this day, the entire island of Bali comes to a complete standstill; the airport and harbor closes, streets resemble ghost towns and visitors are confined to their hotels for a 24 hour period.

BALINESE CALENDER INFO:
The Balinese are deeply religious people and fill their lives with symbolic worship and religious rites of passage. The local calendar is an unending procession of festivals and ceremonies with over 60 religious holidays a year. Ceremonies are held on specific days to bless the Gods of art, learning, agriculture and all other aspects of life. Festivals are great occasion for appeasing the Gods with offerings of incense, fruit and flowers. Traditional music and dances are performed and gods invited down to join the festivities.
Organized tours to witness any number of these occasions and other Balinese cycles of life (tooth filling, wedding, cremations) give you a first-hand glimpse of Bali Hinduism and its communal celebration of life.

JANUARY
• January 3 - “Saraswati” Holiday, the day devoted to god as Sanghyang Aji Saraswati symbolized as the Beautiful godess of know ledges, sciences and arts, when blessing ceremony is given to holy scriptures, books of sciences and arts. Every family compound, throughout Bali.
• January 04 - “Banyu Pinaruh”, when the Balinese go to beaches, rivers and springs at dawn, to purity themselves and pray for wisdom and wits. Throughout Bali
• January 07 - “Pagerwesi” Holiday, the word “Pagerwesi” literally means “Iron fence”, the day devoted to God as Sanghyang Pramesti Guru (Lord Of the Universe). Throughout Bali
• January 10 - Full moon (Sasih Kapitu) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.
• January 17 - “Tumpek Landep” day, the day devorted to Sanghyang Pasupati (God as the lord of all metal implements) when blessing ceremony is given to heirl rooms, weapon and the other metal tools ( including cars) for magical power and proper function throughout Bali.

FEBRUARY
• February 09 - Full moon (Sasih Kaulu) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.
• February 21 - “Tumpek Uduh”/Tumpek Wayang, the day devoted to God as “Sanghyang Sangkara”, lord of all food-plants and vegetables when blessing ceremony is held for good crop and product. Every farm and plantation throughout Bali.

MARCH
• March 10 - Full moon (Sasih Kasanga) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.
• March 18 - “Galungan” Holiday, The day believed as the victory day of “Dharma” (Virtue) upon “Adharma” (evil) , when the entire island is brightened with festivities while “Penjor” the artistically, decorated, bamboo pole stuck at every house entrance adorning the both symbolizing prosperity. Throughout Bali.
• March 24 - “Mekiis or melasti” ceremony the procession of Hindu followers carrying temple effigies to the beach for purification ceremony in welcoming “ Nyepi” the Is caka new year
• March 25 - “Tawur Agung kesanga ceremony, great sacrificial ceremony offered to the underworld spirits for not disturbing human being’s settlement (at 12.00 noon) followed by process of “ogoh-ogoh” (huge doll symbolizing evil spirits) in the evening.

• March 26 - “Nyepi” holiday, the I caka new year 1931, the day of absolute silence for Hindu followers, when no activity is done, no fire is lit, no traveling anywhere and no amusement is held for the day and night, Throughout Bali
• March 27 - “Med-Medan” traditional event, this event is held in connection with “Nyepi” the I caka new year, involing maidens and bachelors of the village as to strengthen brotherhood and understanding among the youth. Initiated with prayer at the local temple, the group members then hug one another, getting troughly wet under water sprouted by someone. Is indeed a cheerful moment for all, held about 15.00 hours. • March 28 - “ Kuningan” holiday, the last day of Galungan celebration, believed to be the ascendant day of the ancentral holy spirits and Deities to heaven after sojourning for several day son this material world. -“Perang Jempana” as part of the temple anniversary celebrations when two group of the temple adherents carrying “Jempana” ( Temple effigy) collides one another as to indicate that the ceremony has been processed properly, at : Pura Panti Timbrah, Pakse Bali Village, Klungkung regency
-“ Megarang pipis”, special events (snatching away the money), when certain sun of money is collected from every family comfound after holding a ritual, which money is then spread out on the village road, snatched away by the crowd of people. It is believed that by supliying the ancestor holy spirits with the money, the descendats will be rewarded with prosperity in return it is usually held before noon, at : Bongan cina village, south of Tabanan, Tabanan regency.

APRIL
• April 09 - Full moon (Sasih Kadasa) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.

MAY
• May 09 - Full moon (Sasih Desta) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.

JUNE
• June 06 - ” Tumpek Kandang/Tumpek Uye” ritual, the day to work ship “ Sanghyang Rare Angon” the Lord of cattel and livestock, requesting good ibreed and product at : Every animal husbandry and family compound in Bali
• June 07 - Full moon (Sasih Sadha) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.

JULY
• July 07 - Full moon (Sasih Kasa) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.
• July 11 -“ Tumpek Wayang”, it is special day for puppeteers, when blessing ceremony is given to shadow puppet play set for “ taksu” (magical charm and power). Throught Bali.

AUGUST
• August 01 - “ Saraswati” holiday, the day devoted to God as Sanghyang Aji Saraswati symbolized a Beautiful Godess of Knowledges, sciences and arts, when blessing ceremony is given to holy scriptures, books of sciences and arts for every family compound throughout Bali

• August 03, 2009 -“Comaribek” day, when blessing ceremony is held for every source of living ( rice, barn, spring, etc). throughout Bali
• August 05 -“Pagerwesi” holiday and full moon ceremony, The word “ Pagerwesi” literally means “ iron fence” (Pager= fence, wesi= iron). This day is doevoted to “Sanghyang Pramesti Guru” (God as lord of the universe), when Hindu followers pray for strong mental defence to face life obstacles. SEPTEMBER
• September 04 - Full moon (Sasih Katiga) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.
• September 19-“Tumpek uduh”, (tumpek wariga) the day devoted to God as “Sanghyang Sangkara” lord of all food-plants and vegetation, when blessing ceremony is held for good crop and product, every farm and plantation throughout Bali

OCTOBER
• October 03 - Full moon (Sasih Kapat) ceremony every family compound, throughout Bali.
• October 14 -“Galungan holyday”celebration, as to commemorate the victory of “Dharma” ( virtue) upon “Adharma” ( evil) based on the mythology of “ Mayadenawa” the demon king who was involved ia a war against God Indra’s troops. On this day , a tall bamboo –pole decorated with young coconut leaves, flower, fruit and cakes is stuck on every house entrance and make a marvelous sight along the village roads symbolizing prosperity, throughout Bali.
